ITK Newsletter, no. CXIV: LUNAR-PICK New Comic Review - Conan: Serpent War #1

Dec 4, 2019

OMG Loonies!

Can't believe it...forgot to release a newsletter last week! It only just occurred to me a few days ago....daaaannnng!

In any case, before we get into the juicy bits of this newsletter, I'm going to get it out of the way now - we'll be covering in our next episode a brand spanking, hot-off-the-press, crisp, steaming hot, clean, neatly folded new comic featuring Moon Knight...

PHASE OF THE MOON: BY CROM!

LUNAR-PICK New Comic Review -

CONAN: SERPENT WAR #1

It seems like a long time between drinks, but yessiree, we'll be having a good ol' review on this new comic book for you in our upcoming episode. Not only will we have that, but we'll have a special guest on the show too.

He's the biggest Conan fan I know, and a right royal hoot - it's Dave Finn from The Signal of Doom Podcast and Dave will be on to give us a little primer on the character as well as join us in reviewing Serpent War. There are a couple of interesting Robert E. Howard characters too such as Solomon Kane and Dark Agnes which should make this mini an entertaining one.

We had a quick look at the preview for the issue in our last episode and although our reactions were a little lukewarm to the preview - hey, it kicks off with Moon Knight, so you can't go too wrong, right?......right?

ITK EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT: WHAT THE FUTURE LIES

So, there's also a little something I'd like to share with you, and it'll be a new era for ITK. After careful deliberation, I'll be rolling out a Patreon Page in the new year to test the waters and see if the show can be self sustaining. I've been playing around with the idea of dropping the show down to every fortnight as opposed to every week, as much as it pains me to even consider. I love the show and I love producing it every week, but it all costs money to keep the lights on, and even though in the scheme of things, it isn't that much...the truth is that there are thing which I'd like to utilise my coin on. If the podcast can sustain itself, then it got me thinking - maybe it can open the doors to much, much more.

So, the last few days I've been creating a Patreon Page for ITK and it's pretty much done. I'll wait until the new year to roll it out, but I thought I'd let you know first in this here newsletter.

In fact this newsletter also will undergo a change.

In the new year, I'll be dropping back on writing a newsletter on a weekly basis and it will become part of the incentives for Patreons as a monthly newsletter.

...there's another reason for this, Loonies, bear with me...:)

In the ever changing landscape and drive to share Moon Knight with the world, ITK will collaborate with Wally Monk of Paint Monk's Library to write reviews of all Moon Knight's catalogue starting with Werewolf By Night #32!

So far, I've put my hand up to try and write the first eight appearances of Moon Knight but I've also sent out a post to all the Loonies to see if anyone is interested in undertaking the task.

Speaking with Wally, the Moon Knight articles will commence January 1st 2020, so I'm hoping to stockpile a big bunch of reviews to get us ahead of the game.

So with added writing duties, and with a Patreon Page looming, I've decided to reduce the newsletter to monthly. Which probably isn't a bad thing as it'll be action packed and have a heap of news and articles from the past month.

Having said all this, it's business as usual for ITK until the new year, so I'll be wrapping up this newsletter as we hurtle towards the end of the year!

SUPPORTING MY FAVOURITE PODCASTS

Seeing as now ITK are entering the Patreon world, it's no surprise that it's this very reason too, that I want to distribute me coin around. I love my podcasts (can you tell? :P) so I'm trying to support them not only by listening, but by also backing their Patreon Pages...so anyway, I just wanted to say this is partly the reason why I'm creating a Patreon Page, in the hope ITK can sustain itself, so I can support my favourite podcasts with the money in my own wallet! :)

FANTASY COMIC LEAGUE (FCL) - #ITKMOONKNIGHT 2019 - November Results

Well, it's the end of the penultimate month for this season's FCL and I'm just tickled pink! There seems to be quite the battle up the top of the overall leader board, but for this month alone, I was happy and relieved to come out on top. It'll boost my chances further with only one month to go...but what a wacky month it was!

As shown below, three Loonies ended up on 40 points (Tommy, Dustin and Chad), and they could only be split by looking at each player's MVP in their draft -

So with the overall season tally, I think that leaves us as follows, with one more month to go -

Rey - 7 pts

Tommy - 6 pts

Jason - 4 points

Dustin - 2 pts

Chad - 2 pts

It'll still be a race to the finish, but contenders such as Tommy, new comer Jason, and yours truly can really chop and change positions, all depending on how all of us (Dustin and Chad inclusive) perform and take out the month of December....exciting!

Due to good fortune, the #ITKMoonKnight Division is already locked into it's Season 3 commencing January 2020...for any Loonies keen on participating, NOW's the time to contact us at ITK and voice your interest! We can have multiple divisions if need be, but the first five (and depending if any of the current roster in the Division want to bow out) who want to play will get in for free...any subsequent divisions, it'll cost $16USD for a four month season (Jan-April 2020)!

RECOMMENDED PODCAST THIS WEEK!

I came across this podcast whilst investigating Patreon,a nd I just love what they do. Although they aren't part of The Collective, they could easily fit into our little group! Go check these guys out!

  • Marveling at Marvel's Marvels (MatMM) - Episode 146: Multiple Man - Some of you know I'm a massive Multiple Man fan, so it's no surprise I chose this episode. It's not their latest episode (that, Episode 147 is all about Magneto), but it's still fun. Well worth listening to and I may even hit them up on Patreon!
